The CIS UN Cultures Day event on
October 24th 2014 was full of a variety of multicultural activities
and food. Kindergarten shared their music making at the afternoon school wide
Assembly by singing “If You Are Happy and You Know It” which concludes by
welcoming everyone by saying HELLO in many different languages!

UN Cultures Day:CHOIR
The CIS UN Cultures
Day event on October 24th 2014 was a busy day for the 4th
and 5th grade Choir. For the
afternoon school wide Assembly they sang
two rounds in 3 parts: “Come Follow Me” with a violin introduction played by Katja and “Dona Nobis Pacem”. Then they sang “Count
On Me” by Bruno Mars, with instrumental accompaniment by Merit
playing piano, Gabriela and Lexi playing
shakers, Katja on the drum and Jason playing the tambourine! Earlier in the day
they had performed this repertoire for the opening of KUKS International Exhibition, at the
Copenhagen City Hall.

CIS Choir:Grade 4-5
CIS Grade 4-5 Choir 2014-15
Students meet for a 30 minute rehearsal time a
cycle usually during Lunch.
Extra rehearsals may be added before a concert.
Repertoire selections will be a collaborative effort
and include both traditional Choral music and arranged Pop music.
Vocal warm up exercises and tone production
practices will be used for each class.
The Choir program will follow the guide lines set
out by the Wisconsin State Music Standards for singing and choir practice.
The Choir can perform in various school events
such as UN day, Festival of Lights, the Spring concert and the Spring Fair and
other events upon a timely request.
Grade 1: Community-each member of a music group has responsibilities!
Grade 1 Music-
Grade 1
students explored patterns of colors in relation to rhythmic sound. The pulse or beat in music pieces such as
“Who is the Captain now?” with its circle game of towing and passing a rope as
a group and “Bow wow wow” with a circle dance and changing partners on the beat,
were song based activities which centered on group work and responsibility to
a musical community. Patterns in movement through dance were
practiced and allowed students to internalize the music’s beat while mind mapping
the choreography collectively. Collaboration in these activities transferred
ensemble skills. Students played a different instrument for each song section.
The song form, with the words, and proper musical notation was introduced in
the rhythmic puzzle of “Bow wow wow”. Students worked in small groups on
classroom instruments and then performed the song. Students were able to use
their written work to connect to the musical sections.
